The front three women were taken from a photograph in the Bulletin of women demonstrating against pension decreases in Rome. It is extremely rare to find images of anyone truly screaming.
I have always enjoyed painting patterns. Not only can they be very effective compositionally but they are also extremely useful in defining the form of the person.
Having decided to use the photograph I was then stuck with what exactly the image was - a painting of a photograph or a painting of women screaming, so I ripped a corner of it stuck it on a wall.
My husband said, that is so Italian girls and the title stuck.
