Brighton Jetty
122 x 106 cms 2000
I was commissioned to paint Brighton Jetty, a new structure, dotted with
sculptural objects created by other people, which was a problem in itself, but
the long thin strip of it was the most difficult. There was simply nothing to
hang a composition onto. Also I had no good images of high seas, though I even
went into the 'Advertiser' offices hoping they had file photos without any luck.
Then a friend found an ancient, yellowed photo of a storm under the original jetty, an evening of amazing skies happened, and it all came together.
