Truck and Old Woman

This wonderful truck was parked on top of a hill, so I could take detailed shots of the mudflaps, diff, air brakes etc.

The truck could have sat there, alone, in the middle of the canvas but I couldn't resist the figure, after which I was told that, of course, I was copying Jeffrey Smart.

It was a peculiar work to do. Generally, there are huge areas of a painting that are changed; lighter, darker, a line different here or there, frequently the entire sky or background gets obliterated and started again, until it all settles down in its right place on the canvas, and then I can finish it. It's finished, when I feel shut out from it and the energy to continue totally vanishes. This one shut me out from the very beginning.
